Check out what attractions and treatments are available at the spas in Rabka-Zdrój.

What makes the health resorts and spas in Rabka special? Why is it worth visiting them with a child?

Rabka-Zdrój is a spa town located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, on the border between the Beskid Wyspowy and Gorce mountain ranges. The healing properties of the brine springs were discovered as early as the 13th century; not everyone is aware of this, but the concentrations of iodine-bromine brines in Rabka are among the highest in Europe. What’s more, Rabka-Zdrój is the only health resort in Poland that also caters to children, specializing, among other things, in the treatment of cardiac conditions. The town is characterized by a mild microclimate; winters here are relatively mild, and summers are not too hot. The area is peaceful but full of attractions for both adults and children.

The health resort has nine water intakes, from which chloride-sodium therapeutic mineral waters are extracted for use in inhalation and bathing treatments, as well as for bottling. Since Rabka’s brine is also sold in bottles, the therapeutic treatment can be continued at home.

Rabka’s brine has excellent therapeutic properties; it has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects and is used to treat respiratory and rheumatic conditions. A stay at the health resorts is also recommended for people with heart conditions. Rabka’s healing microclimate aids recovery, and the brine also has cleansing and skin-care properties that are frequently used in cosmetology. Brine-based skin-care products are an excellent choice for everyone, regardless of age.

At what age can a child go to a health resort?

Children as young as 3 years old can be sent to a health resort in Rabka-Zdrój, provided their health permits it. In practice, many facilities accept children as young as preschool age, and stays for younger children usually require a guardian to accompany them. Older children—school-age and teenagers—can go on their own, taking full advantage of the range of treatments and activities offered by the health resort.

How much does a parent pay for a stay at a health resort with their child?

The cost of the stay depends on the type of trip. If the child has a referral from the National Health Fund (NFZ), their stay and treatments are free, and the parent only covers the costs of room and board—usually a few dozen zlotys per night. For commercial stays, prices may vary depending on the facility’s standard, the type of treatments, and additional attractions. You should expect to pay anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand zlotys per stay.

What conditions does the children's health resort treat?

The health resorts in Rabka-Zdrój specialize in treating respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, allergies, and recurrent infections. They also treat posture disorders, orthopedic and rheumatological conditions, obesity, diabetes, dermatological conditions, and cardiovascular diseases. Thanks to climatotherapy and brine inhalations, a stay in Rabka boosts immunity and improves children’s overall health.

How do I arrange a health resort stay for my children?

To send a child to a health resort funded by the National Health Fund (NFZ), you must visit your family doctor or a specialist to obtain a referral. The document is then sent to the appropriate Provincial Branch of the NFZ, where a spot and departure date are assigned. The waiting time can range from a few months to a year. An alternative is a private stay, which can be booked without a referral—in this case, the parent covers the full cost of the stay and treatments.

How long does a stay at a children's health resort last?

A standard health resort stay for children lasts 21 days. During this time, a treatment and rehabilitation program tailored to the needs of young patients is carried out. For private or commercial stays, it is possible to choose a shorter stay—such as a week—or to extend the stay to several months, depending on the doctors’ recommendations and the child’s individual needs.
