The Danish amusement park Klampenborg Bakken is considered one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, with a history dating back to the late 16th century. The former royal hunting ground has been transformed into a place of entertainment for children, teenagers, and adults. In Poland, the first amusement park of this type opened in 1959. It was Legendia, an amusement park that is still in operation today and was formerly known as Śląskie Wesołe Miasteczko. Since then, the number of smaller and larger amusement parks in our country has been gradually increasing. How many are there currently, and where are they located?

The oldest amusement parks in Poland

The first and oldest amusement park in Poland still in operation today is Legendia, located within Silesian Park in Chorzów, one of the largest parks in Europe. The entire park covers an area of over 500 hectares, of which more than 25 belong to Legendia.

Just one year after the Silesian Amusement Park opened, it already featured dozens of different rides. For over 60 years, this place has attracted hundreds of visitors of all ages. Today, the park boasts over 40 attractions, divided into 5 separate themed zones, as well as numerous relaxation and green areas and as many as 11 different dining options!

Rabkoland, located in Rabka-Zdrój, is also one of the oldest amusement parks in Poland. It is a unique place where preschoolers, older children, and elementary school students alike will find something to enjoy. Spanning over 2 hectares, the park features dozens of different attractions, ranging from roller coasters and carousels to water rides. All these attractions are divided into six themed zones, designed with children of various ages in mind. Rabkoland also features over a dozen food stands and restaurants.

Another interesting spot on the map of Polish amusement parks is Julinek Park. The amusement park itself officially opened just 10 years ago, but the entire site has a much longer and fascinating history. Julinek is located on the grounds of the former Circus Base, about 30 kilometers from Warsaw. This base had been in operation since the early 1950s, just a few years after the end of World War II. Circus performers and managers from across the country and around the world would gather here—for training, but also for performances. To this day, it is also home to the State School of Circus Arts. The Julinek amusement park located there offers its guests dozens of attractions spread across an area of 30 hectares. These include an amusement park with carousels, a roller coaster, and rides, a rope park, and a water park.

The Largest Amusement Parks in Poland

The title of the largest amusement park in our country goes to Energylandia in Zator, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, which remains unrivaled to date. Its vast area of over 70 hectares is home to nearly 140 different attractions. Poland’s largest amusement park features over a dozen themed zones for children, teenagers, and adults. Energylandia also houses several dining options, the Grand Arena—which hosts theater, circus, and acrobatic performances—as well as an amphitheater and several photo booths. In the summer, there is also a large water park with pools, water jets, and slides.

The second-largest facility of its kind in Poland is Mandoria, located in Rzgów in the Łódź Province. Covering an area of over 500,000 square meters indoors, the park features dozens of attractions, including those exclusively for children as well as those suitable for older visitors. These include roller coasters—such as Aquila, the fastest ride of its kind in the park—carousels, pedal boats, and slides. There is also a huge jungle gym, relaxation areas, and food and beverage outlets.

The Majaland Kownaty amusement park, located in Torzym in the Lubusz Province, is also impressive in size. Majaland spans 10 hectares and features nearly 30 different attractions for visitors of all ages. These include the Wilkołak and Wiking roller coasters, carousels, rides, and attractions for the youngest children—such as Zakręcona Farma and the car town. The park also features a playground, fountain, and water zone, as well as a theater that hosts numerous performances and artistic shows.

Other amusement parks in Poland

There are dozens of different amusement parks across the country that successfully attract visitors with their unique attractions. In addition to the most famous and largest ones, it’s definitely worth visiting smaller or less popular amusement parks and theme parks, where fun is perfectly combined with learning and exploring the world. These include, among others, the JuraPark Science and Education Park in Krasiejów, the Nowa Holandia Family Amusement Park in Elbląg, the Tajemnicza Solina Amusement Park, and the Sowiński Amusement Park.
