Vacation is a time for family trips, during which parents and children have the opportunity to enjoy spending time together. For various reasons, however, it’s not always possible to organize a longer trip lasting several days. In that case, it’s worth planning a weekend or day trip to an interesting destination that will make up for the short duration of the trip.
Where should I take my child on Sunday? Where can I go on a trip in Poland?
A Sunday outing should have a destination that’s not too far away. So it’s a good idea to choose a place that takes no more than an hour or an hour and a half to reach. That way, the whole family can enjoy the planned activities and the time spent together there. When planning Sunday activities, it’s a good idea to check if there are any special events happening nearby, such as performances for children. It’s also a good idea to choose a destination that suits your children’s abilities, ages, and interests.
Where to go on Sunday in Lesser Poland?
Małopolska is a region rich in a wide variety of tourist attractions, catering to adults, teenagers, and children alike. Within a relatively small area, there are many places to visit on a Sunday with the whole family—from historic and fascinating cities like Kraków, Wadowice, and Zakopane, to mountains, forests, and national parks far from the hustle and bustle of the streets.
Zakopane
Zakopane is one of the most visited cities in Poland. There are many interesting places worth visiting and seeing, both in the very center, on the outskirts, and in the immediate vicinity of the city. You can start your trip with a stroll down the iconic Krupówki Street, which runs through the city’s tourist center. At the end of the street is a large square where you can buy traditional oscypek cheese and other food products and souvenirs associated with Zakopane. Continuing on, you’ll come to the cable car that will take you up to Gubałówka.
Not far from Krupówki, you’ll also find a historic cemetery and the Stanisław Witkacy Museum of Zakopane Style.
Babia Góra
Where should you go on Sunday? For lovers of mountain hikes who want to instill a passion for trekking in their children, Babia Góra is a great choice. The mountain range stretching from the Jałowiecka Pass to Krowiarki comprises over ten remarkable peaks that the whole family can climb. Two of them deserve special attention: Diablak, at 1,725 meters, and Mała Babia Góra, also known as Cylem, at 1,517 meters.
Wadowice
The hometown of Karol Wojtyła, Saint John Paul II, is a special place where you can learn about the life of the Polish pope. In addition to the sites associated with our distinguished compatriot, who once sat on the papal throne, Wadowice also offers the following attractions:
- Museum Place,
- the historic, 19th-century "Mikołaj" manor house in the Classical style
- John Paul II Square, with its historic row of 19th-century Neoclassical houses, and
- infantry barracks, also dating from the same century.
Rabkoland Amusement Park on Sunday
Rablokand Amusement Park is a place where you can find fun Sunday activities for both young children and older kids. All the attractions are divided into several categories, making it much easier to choose an activity that suits your child’s age and abilities. Among the zones at Rabkoland, you’ll find, among others, the circus zone, the machine park, the Viking village, and the bumblebee valley. Entertainment at Rabkoland includes carousels and rides, as well as playgrounds, themed and sensory areas, and stages where actors, circus performers, and magicians regularly put on shows especially for the little ones. The park also features food courts and comfortable resting areas for parents.
What fun things can you do on Sunday?
Sunday is the perfect day to take a break from your daily responsibilities and spend time with your family. Even just one day can bring a lot of joy if you plan it well. What fun things can you do with your child on Sunday?
- visit an amusement park, such as Rabkoland,
- go to the zoo or the botanical garden,
- organize a family picnic in the park or by the lake,
- set out on a bike ride along the scenic trail,
- see a play or a family movie,
- look for local events—fairs, festivals, science shows,
- visit a museum or educational center with an interactive exhibit.
The key is to tailor the activities to the children’s ages and the location—that way, even a short trip can be unforgettable.
How can I make the most of my Sunday?
A Sunday well spent is one that combines relaxation, physical activity, and quality time with loved ones. When planning your day, keep these three rules in mind:
- Don't overload your schedule – 1–2 items on the agenda are enough to avoid feeling rushed.
- Make sure to mix things up – combine a walk, playtime, a meal, and some rest.
- Choose a child-friendly location – with restrooms, shade, and age-appropriate attractions.
Sunday is a great opportunity to spend time together, rather than just “ticking off” attractions. Even if you spend it in one place, it’s important that it’s a cheerful, welcoming, and interesting place for everyone in the family.
Ideas for Sunday activities in southern Poland
If you’re looking for an interesting idea for a Sunday outing with your child in southern Poland, it’s worth opting for variety—from mountain hikes and nature observation to interactive museums. A great choice is Rabkoland in Rabka-Zdrój—a family amusement park with fairy-tale attractions divided into themed zones, perfect for both toddlers and older children. For nature and animal lovers, we recommend a visit to the Forest Park of Surprises in Ustroń, where children can see fallow deer, owls, and eagles up close, and even participate in falconry demonstrations. Another suggestion is the Gubałówka Cable Car—a short ride offers beautiful views and the thrill of the ascent itself, while at the summit, a promenade awaits with attractions and local delicacies. In the Wadowice area, it’s worth visiting the John Paul II Family Home Museum, which engages younger visitors thanks to its modern presentation style. Another interesting option is the Garden of Experiences in Kraków, where children can learn about the laws of physics through play in the open air. On hot days, it’s a good idea to relax by the Mucharskie or Czorsztyńskie Lakes—you can go for a walk, sunbathe, or take a boat ride there. For families with younger children, a pleasant option is also a walk through the Spa Park in Szczawnica, which combines beautiful surroundings, playgrounds, and access to a mineral water pump room.
How can you plan Sunday activities for the whole family?
When planning a family outing for Sunday, it’s worth considering a few key points. First and foremost, choose a destination that appeals to everyone on the trip, or plan the outing so that everyone has the chance to explore, see, or visit the attraction of their choice. If you’re planning a trip with several stops, choose places that are close to each other so you spend most of your time enjoying the attractions rather than in the car. We should also remember to check the weather forecast and prepare appropriately for the expected weather conditions. If we’re going on a road trip, we can easily pack an extra sweatshirt or jacket for everyone, or a few umbrellas.
Let’s not forget to take a break for a meal. When choosing a destination for your trip, it’s a good idea to pick a place where the whole family can not only have fun, but also relax and enjoy a meal. A perfect example of this is what we can find at Rabkoland amusement park; there are dozens of attractions for children of all ages, as well as several attractive dining areas. The diverse menu allows everyone—both adults and often more picky children—to choose what they’re in the mood for and what they like.
